Changsha Cunwei Completes Fault Diagnosis And Maintenance of Natural Gas Engine

Accurately locate the misfire in Cylinder 2 and replace the ignition coil to restore equipment operation.

On September 9, the maintenance team of Changsha Cunwei Import and Export Co., Ltd. completed the fault diagnosis and repair service for a Cummins natural gas engine. The customer’s equipment reported a fault code for Cylinder 2 misfire. The team connected the diagnostic computer to read data, quickly identified the failed ignition coil as the root cause of the fault, then replaced the damaged component in accordance with specifications and restored engine operation. The issue was fully resolved.

After receiving the maintenance task, technicians first connected the engine electronic control unit using dedicated diagnostic equipment to read fault information. The system clearly indicated a misfire in Cylinder 2. Considering the characteristics of the ignition system of natural gas engines, with ignition coils and spark plugs as core components, the team initially judged that the fault might be related to the ignition system. After confirming the fault point, technicians performed work in accordance with Cummins natural gas engine maintenance specifications: cut off power, removed the damaged ignition coil and related fasteners, installed a brand-new OEM ignition coil, and retightened the screws to the specified torque. Meanwhile, they inspected the mounting condition of the pressure plate and high-voltage connection parts. After reassembly, power was restored, historical fault codes were cleared, and the engine was started for test run verification. Finally, the equipment ran smoothly, the misfire fault did not recur, thesystem showed "Issue Resolved", and the maintenance task was successfully completed.
